Abstract：The existing pure moso forests in the south of China is very fragile in ecological function. In order to explore the approach to directional transformation of moso forest and re-establishment of ecological forest, and restore & establish bamboo-broadleaved mixed forest, Castanopsis kawakamii is planted in pure moso forest to study the change in water conservation function of the mixed forest. The results show that: 1) The suitable density is 2 400-3 600 plants/ha for bamboo and 900 plants/ha for C. kawakamii; 2) After 10 years of C. kawakamii planting, the soil density of mixed forest drops significantly, the soil porosity and water holding capacity increase significantly, the content of water stable aggregates climb, the soil permeability and anti-erosion strength greatly increase, and the water conservation function of the stand is significantly enhanced. The results can provide references for the transformation of pure moso bamboo forests in the ecological function region of southern China.
