Abstract:Bambusa Retz. corr. Schreber is the genus in caespitose group of Bambusoideae with the strong environmental adaptability, the widest distribution range and abundant species diversity. Because of this genus being close to the production and daily life of the residents, and outstanding economic, ecological and social value, Bambusa species have been widely cultivated and utilized. Not only there are very rich species but also rich cultivars in this genus. In Bambusa, more than 100 species were recorded around the world with distribution mainly in the tropical and subtropical areas of Asia and Africa. China has 71 native and introduced species, mainly growing in South and Southwest China. In accordance with International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants (ICNCP), after a systematic study on the genus, we accepted and recognized 57 cultivars around the world, which are from 14 different species. However, 22 cultivars in Bambusa have been not yet confirmed and needed further study.
