A Study of Bamboo Cultivars from Lingnania in the World

Abstract:The genus of Lingnania McClure belonging to the sub-family of Bambusoideae is an interesting bamboo group due to its long internodes, which is especially suitable for weaving the production tools and living supplies. Historically, the bamboos of this genus have been an indispensable and important production & living materials for the local residents in its distribution area, and widely cultivated and used. In Lingnania there are nearly 20 species in the world, of which 14 species are distributed mainly in central and south China, and a few species are found in Vietnam. In accordance with International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants (ICNCP), four cultivars in the genus were accepted, and one cultivar was newly registered and reported herein. Added with the two original cultivars,a total of 7 cultivars from two different species of this genus were described in this paper for references.
