Abstract:In 2006, the mixed forest of Phyllostachys pubescens and Castanopsis hystrix, and the pure forest of Ph. pubescens as well as C. hystrix were established on the slash land of Chinese fir, and managed with the basically similar measures. The growth effects of mixed forest and pure forests were compared and analyzed 12 years later. The results showed that the mixed forest could form a multi-layer stand structure with high utilization rate of stand spaces; the species growing in the mixed forest showed better growth condition than their counterparts in the pure forests, and the productivity of the mixed forest reached 68.91 m3/ha, higher by 13.94% than the pure forest of Ph. pubescens and by 43.50% than the pure forest of C. hystrix; the soil property in the mixed forest has been evidently improved: the soil bulk density decreased, the porosity and water retention significantly increased, and the content of soil organic matter as well as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium were higher than those in the pure forests. The Ph. pubescens as well as C. hystrix mixed forest management model is worthwhile to be promoted in production.
