Abstract:Bamboo industry is reputed as the sunrise industry in the 21st century in China. With the continuous development of scientific technology, the use and research of bamboo cover a broad range. Bamboo resources in China are very bountiful, with more than 500 species under 39 genus. Most of these species are distributed in the hilly mountains of 14 provinces. Most of the bamboo resources in China are growing in the south to the Yangtze River, and therefore the bamboo forests distributing in north of the Yangtze River are more valuable. Protecting and developing bamboo resources in the north area have important ecological value as well as distinct social value and economical values. In this paper, we comprehensively took Henan Province as an example to elaborate the bamboo industry development and related research in the Central Plain Region in terms of bamboo forest structure, introducing bamboo species into the north from the south, new variety cultivation, disease and pest control, bamboo industry and development prospect. This study would provide scientific basis and theoretical guidance for the development of bamboo sector in the Central Plain Region in the future.
