Abstract:Lingnania cerosissima ‘Huapidanzhu’, belonging to L. cerosissima in the genus of Lingnania McClure, Bambusoideae, is a new cultivated bamboo cultivar after years efforts in breeding. It is the largely sympodial bamboo species with thick and tall stem, which is 6-8 m in height and 4.5-6.5 cm in diameter. The whole culm and part of branches are yellow and green striped, and the whole culm is covered with thick white powder. Its individual culms is relatively smaller, which is 3-7 m in height and 2-5 cm in diameter, and the culms are green without stripes, but covered with white powder. After 10-year breeding and observation, the species is found to be stable in its character. It is concluded that L. cerosissima ‘Huapidanzhu’ is a excellent ornamental bamboo species to be planted the south to Yangtze River basin where the annual average temperature is about 17-25℃, the annual precipitation is 1,700-2,000 mm and the altitude is 600 m or below.
