The Effect of Steel Slag Fertilizer on Moso Bamboo Forest

Abstract:The BDH (diameter at breast height), the new bamboo growth and relative growth production were studied under two stand density models of Phyllostachys edulis forest (low density and high density) in three different fertilization (urea, bio-organic fertilizer and steel slag fertilizer), to determinate if steel slag fertilizer can replace compound fertilizer and bio-organic fertilizer. The results showed that no significant difference was found in terms of new culm quantity, BDH and production among the three different fertilizers; and no significant difference was found in terms of the new culm quantity and production between the two different stand densities. The average DBH under low stand density was higher than that under high stand density (P=0.041<0.05). No significant difference was found in relative growth production among the three different fertilizers (P=0.138>0.05). Relative growth production of low stand density bamboo forest was higher than that of high stand density bamboo forest (P=0.023<0.05). As the cost of steel slag fertilizer is lower, it can replace urea and bio-organic fertilizer to improve the benefits of moso bamboo forest management.
