Abstract:Phyllostachys praecox f. prevelnalis shoot production is the largest rural industry in Lin'an District, Zhejiang Province. With the economic development, the P. praecox forest is faced with several problems, including small scaled management, increasing costs, lower relative efficiency, etc. Therefore, it is imperative to expand the management scale of P. praecox forest. To identify the suitable management scale of P. praecox forest for farmers, an investigation was conducted among 85 farmers who manage P. praecox forest in Lin'an District, with the focus on the management area, labor input and output benefits. The results showed that when the P. praecox forest managed by farmers was 1.33 ha, farmers could obtain good economic benefits and keep the motivation in planting bamboo with rotation mulching cultivation. The results could provide a basis for the government to formulate relevant policies in bamboo forest transfer and rural surplus labor transfer.
