Abstract:Chimonobambusa neopurpurea ‘Ziyu’ is a new bamboo cultivar from Ch. neopurpurea Yi in the genus of Chimonobambusa Makino of Bambusoideae. In 2013, this new bamboo cultivar was found in the cultivated plantations of Ch. neopurpurea in Xiange Town of Dujiangyan City, Sichuan Province. In the same year, this bamboo cultivar was transplanted into Tuanjie Village, Puyang Town of Dujiangyuan City as a main food source for giant panda. The new cultivar was developed by further optimization, separation and cultivation from the variation plants of Ch. neopurpurea. ‘Ziyu’ and ‘Lineata’ which are in a genetic affinity group. The key differences between ‘Ziyu’ and ‘Lineata’ are that the culms and branches of ‘Ziyu’ are from lightly purple, purple-red to purple, and the shoots are light gray but the ‘Lineata’ is lightly purple with lightly green vertical stripes at the lower part of newly grown culm and the shoots are dark-brown green in color.
