Abstract：The first information management system for bamboo species resources was established in Yunnan Province of China based on GIS technology, including 389 species, variety and forma from 41 genera. With the formats of "scientific name" or "scientific name + distribution area", the system could give relevant information, including genus and species, morphological characteristics, distribution area (including longitude, latitude, altitude and habitat conditions), distribution map and habitat pictures. Therefore, this system could provide the visual information on species distribution and habitat. The inquiry results could generate printable, reasonable laid out and informative bamboo species distribution map. The establishment of this system will greatly reduce the cost of bamboo resources investigation in Yunnan, improve the utilization of bamboo resources information and realize resources sharing, so it is of widespread application value.
