Abstract:After the collection and pooling of the bamboo plants naturally distributed in Guangxi, it was found that, among the 157 species and varieties of bamboo plants belonging to 23 genera, there are 39 species and varieties of endemic bamboos of 14 genera in Guangxi, accounting for 24. 8% of the total bamboo species. Among them, there are 11 species of Bambusa, 5 species of Indosasa, and 1-3 species of other genera. In these endemic bamboos, there are 16 species of 6 genera sympodial bamboo, and 23 species of 10 genera monopndial bamboo. The 11 bamboo species which are distributed in protected areas have been better protected, while the 28 bamboo species which grow outside the protected area are becoming endangered due to the narrow habitat and the deteriorating environment. It is suggested that in-situ protection should be adopted for the bamboo species distributed in protected areas, and ex-situ conservation should be taken as soon as possible for the bamboo species growing outside the protected areas. For bamboo species with small population, legislation should be issued and implemented for enhancing their protection, and more efforts should be taken to develop and utilize the bamboo species with higher economic or ornamental value.
