Abstract:Sinaloa Mexico is the most important region of food production of Latin America. Since 2009, unexpected frost winds hitting the region has caused burning 25% of the total crop production (Equal to the value of 500 $ million USD) per year. Introducing Dendrocalaus latiflorus to Sinaloa as a main "cash crop", aims to compensate for the lost, bringing 170 000 hectares of new bamboo forests in northwest Mexico. Such action will provide fresh bamboo shoots for market in south of USA, Mexico and Central America. This article aims to illustrate the potency of bamboo as a powerful ally and a social business model for humankind during the climate change. Focusing on the direction of a pilot project to establish a bamboo social business in Mexico, with a large contribution from China. As a consequence, the quality of life for habitants in Sinaloa will be strongly influenced by the socioeconomic aspects of bamboo and other complementary systems.
