Abstract:The soil temperature and the change in rhizome and bamboo shoot growth under mulching were studied in moso shoot productive forest The results showed that the soil temperature increased significantly under mulching, and the soil temperature at the layers of 20,40 and 60 cm deep was 12.5,12.8 and 11.3℃ higher than the temperature of soil without mulching, while the temperature between these layers was not significantly different The number of mean rhizome buds were 50 000 buds/ha with mulching and 38 600 bud/ha without mulching, and the germinating rate of rhizome buds increased with the age of rhizome while the rhizome bud germinating rates of 1-2,3-4 and 5-6-year-old rhizome were 10.4%,51.4%and 64.6%,respectively.Mulching had obvious effect on the yield of moso shoot forest The shoot production could be more than 1 000 kg/ha at the years of low yield, and the spring shoots production between the years of high yield and of low yield was 1:0.61-1:0.97.
