Abstract：Standards act as the technical support for economic activities and social development, and also the basis for the healthy industry development. Standards back up the innovative development of industries. China boasts the largest number of standards and the best standard system for bamboo, and bamboo standards account for more than 90% of the world bamboo standard. The Secretariat of ISO/TC 296 is located in China. Strengthening the standard development for bamboo industry is of vital significance for promoting the high-quality development of bamboo industry and increasing China's voice in bamboo sector in the world. This paper reviews the status of the bamboo standards development in China, top-down design of national bamboo standard development, the implementation and application of bamboo standards and the backup for international standard development, and comes up with suggestions on promoting the development of bamboo industry based on standards. The study is aimed to facilitate information exchange among bamboo industry and provide references for the development of national and international standards for bamboo.
